In 2560, the Banished held control of Zeta Halo and fought a battle against the UNSC. Decimus was killed in the battle, and the Spirit of Fire managed to take a newly created Halo ring and send it back to the Milky Way Galaxy. In the year 2559, the Banished set foot on the Forerunner Ark and attempted to take control of it, causing them to come into conflict with the crew of the UNSC Spirit of Fire. The Banished raided the Covenant for resources in their early years and gradually amassed power, members, and associates. Marauder Warchiefs buff nearby allied units to do more damage, while Prowling Marauders stay cloaked for 90 seconds.The Banished formed as a rebellion against the Covenant when Atriox led several of his Jiralhanae kin against their Sangheili commanders in the late 2540s. In Blitz, Marauders cost 70 energy, while Marauder Warchiefs cost 120, and Prowling Marauders cost 90. Marauders perform well against infantry, and okay against vehicles, aircraft, and structures.

Unlike the similar Prowler war-sleds, the Marauder's driver is located in the middle of the vehicle, while the gunner is sat in the back. The Marauder is a war-sled of Jiralhanae origin, and as such boasts a reasonably standard design consisting of a streamlined body with two antigravity repulsors beneath.
